As I write this blog post it’s early in the morning on Christmas Eve. I’m looking forward to spending time with family and friends these next few days, eating too much, and enjoying a few good drinks. I’m very fortunate and my most precious gifts are never material.
The year is coming to a close and time seems to slow down until the new year. This is a great time to reflect on the past year and learn from the events, mistakes, breakdowns (automotive or mental), and successes. I purchased a pickup truck at the beginning of 2025 and through best-practices use and maintenance, I’ve had no problems with it. I’ve had a number of appliances break and renovation mishaps this year, but they have been a good opportunity to learn a new skill and upgrade our home.
What will next year bring? I will write again near the end of the year with a nice wrap-up post with some thoughts on the automotive industry, 2025 models, and my shifting opinions about watches, but I will say now that I am excited for the next year. My family is welcoming another child and we will be upgrading our family car.
Do you have an automotive enthusiast in your life that you struggle to buy gifts for? There are so many articles with “top 10 gifts for car lovers” that all include Armor All wipes, window scrapers, some cupholder gadget, or a trinket with their car makers logo on it. When was the last time you bought or someone got you a car themed gift that really had thought and meaning behind it? Two years ago, my brother bought me a new tail light housing because mine was cracked. It was thoughtful, unexpected, and exactly what I needed. Maybe a good car themed gift is as simple as an air filter, spark plugs, engine oil and filter, or a bag of 10mm sockets. Just make sure you get parts for the right car! I think this type of gift would make the car enthusiast in your life very happy.
